------A Translation Practice and Study

【Abstract】Tourism culture takes up an important part in the economy of China. However, cultural differences cause a lot of problems in the translation of tourism te*ts, such as the translation of public signs and the translation of traditional snack. With its rich cultural heritage and manifestations, Chinese opera, the cultural and artistic treasures of China has attracted a large audience home and abroad. And translation has played an important role in the transmission of Chinese opera. In this paper, the author first does some translation practice on Quanzhou local operas and then discusses the language characteristics, difficulties and principles in the translation of tourism te*ts from Chinese to English, and at last suggests some possible strategies.

Ⅰ. Introduction
With the rapid development of tourism, tourism culture is playing an increasingly important role. Though we have many successful e*amples in translating tourist materials, there are still some problems in this area and it needs some improvements. In this paper, the author first translates te*ts of Quanzhou local operas into English, and then discusses the language characteristics of the te*ts of tourism culture, principles of the translation of the te*ts of tourism culture and difficulties in translating the te*ts, from Chinese into English, and at last suggests the appropriate methods and strategies to translate such tourism te*ts.
As a student majoring in English, the author has learnt many translation theories in the past four years in college. However, the author hasn’t put much English into practice. In order to master the theories well, the author thinks it is necessary to apply them to actual te*t. In this paper, the translation methods and strategies applied are discussed by the analysis of some e*amples from the source te*t to show the close relationship between the theories and the application of translation.
As far as the author can see, there are few people translating Quanzhou opera culture now. There are some technical terms and comple* sentence structures in the materials, which are good for translation practice.





















Ⅱ. A Translation Practice of Quanzhou Local Operas
泉州戏曲艺术

泉州历史文化积淀极为丰厚，传统戏曲艺术历史悠久，品种众多，名家辈出，精品迭现，构成了独具魅力、绚丽多姿的戏曲艺术长廊。
近20年来，泉州市连续举办8届中国泉州国际南音大会唱、5届泉州“海上丝绸之路”文化节、3届泉州国际木偶节、28届戏剧会演、迎接联合国“海上丝绸之路”综合考察、3次海丝之路学术研讨、3次南戏学术研讨会等大型文艺活动，有力地促进了泉州地方戏曲艺术事业的繁荣发展，增进了对外经济文化交流，提高了泉州地方戏曲在海内外的知名度和影响力。
Quanzhou Local Operas
Quanzhou is e*tremely rich in historical and cultural heritage, and its traditional opera of many varieties has a long history. The masters come forth in large numbers and competitive products appear repeatedly. All of these constitute a unique charm, colorful art gallery.
In the recent 20 years, Quanzhou has continuously held eight times Quanzhou International Nanyin Singing Gala, five times Cultural Festival of Quanzhou “Maritime Silk Route”, 3 times Quanzhou International Puppet Festival, 28 times of Theatrical Performances, and it has also received the comprehensive investigation of the "Maritime Silk Route" by the United Nations，three times of Maritime Silk Route Seminars, three times of academic seminars of local classical opera in South China and large cultural activities, etc, effectively promoting the prosperity and development of Quanzhou local opera art, enhancing the economic e*change and cultural e*change towards foreign countries, and improving the reputation and influence of Quanzhou local operas home and abroad.

2.1 南音表演 Quanzhou Nanyin Music

每当夜晚，徜徉于古城老街旧巷或市区文化宫、府文庙一带，常可听到袅袅的南音，令人心醉神驰。南音，又称南曲、南管、弦管，是晋唐时代的宫廷音乐传入福建后，与闽南民间音乐、戏曲音乐_、融合、发展形成的。它发源于泉州地区，后流传于整个闽南、港台和东南亚华人居住区，成了沟通地域感情的一种艺术形式。
南音以泉州话演唱，曲调典雅柔美，唱腔婉转悠扬，既有宫廷音乐气质，又有浓烈的乡土气息，富有长久不衰的音乐魅力。它是中国现存最古老的乐种之一，保存着极其丰富的古代音乐文化遗韵，被誉为“中国音乐的活化石”、“中国民族音乐的根”、“一部活的音乐历史”，深受人们的喜爱。
