在人成长的过程中,他们的价值观、世界观会受到来自很多方面的影响:父母、亲戚、老师、书本、报纸、电视节目等等。其中,父母将会影响孩子性格的形成。本文将通过研究中美家庭教育理念的不同来了解中美儿童独立性的分别。父母控制、对玩的态度以及对成就的看重,这些元素都将列入其中。我们将会对中国父母对父母控制及成就的偏好以及美国父母对“玩”截然不同的看法进行探讨。

Abstract:
As people grow up, they learn certain values and assumptions from their parents, relatives, teachers, books, newspapers, and television programs. Among them, the influence of parents is one of the most important elements which help build up children’s characters. As people grow up, they learn certain values and assumptions from their parents, relatives, teachers, books, newspapers, and television programs. “Children are the e*pectation of their parents and the hope of a nation. Family education is not only an important component of education but also the first lesson to a child, which will be remembered forever.” Zhao Zhong*in , one of the most famous e*perts in family education, wrote in his book. For building up children’s personalities, parents play an important role in children’s development. Through comparing the child-rearing (similar to the literal translation of Chinese concept, family education) principles of two countries, we can learn the differences of the culture of the two counties.
For character, independence is one of the features Chinese kids differ from that of America. In the dictionary, it is defined as the freedom to organize your own life, make your own decisions, etc. without needing help from other people. Analyzing children’s independence between Chinese and American family in the following principles of child-rearing will help us see more clearly the differences of the two cultures.
Attitude towards Play:
When it comes to play, there are absolutely different opinions between Chinese parents and American parents. Play can facilitate the development of children’s emotion and self-discovery. Most Chinese parents, however, are more or less prejudiced against “play”. We can see it from many Chinese idioms. For e*ample, wanwushaozhi which means sapping one’s spirit by seeking pleasure, wankuzidi which refers to a good-for-nothing young man from a wealthy family, etc. On the contrary, “HAVE FUN!” should be the most suitable phrase to show American parents’ view on play.
Some people describe America as “children’s heaven”, which implies that American children live with more easiness and freedom in terms of social ecology. There is a case: before going to school, parents would tell their children some do’s and don’ts. The most representative warns come from Chinese parents would be “behave yourself”, “obey the teachers”, “listen carefully in class”, “don’t be naughty”, etc. While American parents might only tell their kids “HAVE FUN”.
